Sendai Framework and UNDRR
The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction responds to the fact that the number of deaths worldwide from natural and technological disasters has increased significantly in recent years. IPCC assumes that climate change has played a part in this development and that this proportion will increase further in the future.
For the period 2015 - 2030, the Sendai Framework calls for a series of national and international measures to reduce or reverse the trend of increasing damage. To this end, 7 (global) goals and indicators have been agreed on:
- Reduce global disaster mortality
- Reudce the number of affected people globally
- Reduce direct economic loss in relatioin to GDP
- Reduce disaster damage to critical infrastructure and disruption of basis services
- Increase the number of countries with national and local disaster risk reduction strategies
- Substantially enhance international cooperation to developing countries
- Increase the availability of and access to multi-hazard early warning systems
4 Sendai Priorities
The 4 Sendai Priorities for Action are:
- Understanding disaster risk
- strengthening disaster risk governance to manage disaster risk
- investing in disaster risk reduction for resilience
- enhancing disaster preparedness for effective response and to “Build Back Better” in recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction
